CBD Dosing: The Ultimate Guide

CBD pipettes and CBG oils

Many articles talk about how much CBD you should take. Some are right on, some filled with erroneous information, and some mixed with truths and half-truths. As vigilant as you must be in sourcing your products, you must pay equal attention to where you receive your instruction.

In this article, armed with the latest available research at hand, we’re going to get to bottom of this question. We’ll assess the information, look at the suggested ways to figure out your optimum dose for various ailments, and we’ll hear a few testimonials from Steve’s Goods community of supporters. We’ll address dosing for oils, vaping, tinctures, concentrates and edibles but first let’s look at the general research.

How much CBD should I take?

That’s the question that comes up most frequently after what is CBD, how can it help me and what’s the best way to ingest it.

Unfortunately, there is no one size fits all answer.

Research is underway to determine how much CBD the body needs to get the most beneficial effect. It’s turning out to be different for everyone depending on his or her make-up, the issue being treated, and their chosen method of intake.

Information Packed CBD Study

This NIH Study published in 2017 is quite informative regarding this topic. At the same time, it highlights the reason more studies are needed.

Humans, Mice, and CBD

When you’re talking about CBD, many of the studies are done on mice. They’re finding differences in how animals and humans receive and absorb the molecule. One way they test absorption is through plasma levels. When both receive equal amounts of CBD orally, results show varying rates, indicating differences in active blood concentrations. So scientists need to look further to humans to study best doses for us.

CBD Dosing: The Ultimate Guide

Recommended CBD Dose

CBD helps bring your body back into homeostasis, or balance. With the full range of maladies CBD can potentially help, there are factors to take into account when you consider how much to take. There are substantial differences whether you’re treating acute or chronic symptoms. Chronic issues have been reported to require taking higher doses for more extended periods of time, while acute problems can be relieved with smaller amounts and less vigilance.

Why The Different Strengths?

As you’re probably gathering by now, knowledge of the amount of CBD necessary for specific issues is still being widely researched. Something becoming clearer and more evident as the results are coming in is, due to absorbability and other findings talked about in the article mentioned above, larger amounts of CBD are necessary to treat the body than previously considered. The way it’s talked about scientifically is milligrams/kilograms or a milligram of medication per kilogram of the body weight of the person taking the medicine.

The important issue of how many milligrams of CBD necessary for you to get relief for your specific problem is why our full spectrum CBD products come in three strengths, 500 mg., 1000 mg., and the highest 2000 mg. per 30 ml bottle. We also now offer 15 ml bottles with 250, 500, and 1000 mg. Our feeling is what good is a treatment if it isn’t as affordable as possible?

How Much CBD Is In A Dropper?

ingesting CBG oil.

CBD comes in different strengths and bottle sizes. How do you know how much you’re getting in a dose? Here’s the general simple math for the answer, then we’ll get into specifics. Before we start, a standardly sized dropper equals 1 ml, each drop, .05 ml. adding up to 20 drops per ml.

How to Calculate Your CBD Dosage

Divide the strength of the CBD by the size of the bottle. The answer gives you an amount of CBD per dropper.

Divide the amount of CBD in the dropper by 20. The answer gives you the amount of CBD in each drop.

Here’s a breakdown of the approximate strengths of the three strengths we offer:

500 mg/ 30 ml

Divide 500 by 30, and you find there’s 16.66 mg per dropper.

Divide 16.66 by 20, and there’s .83 mg. per drop.

1000/ 30 ml

Divide 1000 by 30 which equals 33.33 mg. per dropper.

Divide 33.33 by 20 equalling 1.66 mg. per drop

2000/ 30 ml

Divide 2000 by 30 which equals 66.66 mg. per dropper.

Divide 66.66 by 20 equalling 3.33 mg. per drop

Now I’m going to state the obvious. If you need high doses of CBD to get relief, you can see the benefit in using a stronger product.

How Do I Find My Dose?

Even though standards are not set, there’s a simple way to discover the point where you begin to feel relief. It’s simple but not easy, as it requires follow through. You can find for yourself what works best for you. Introducing, titration. If you’re on prescription medication, be sure to talk with your physician before experimenting.

Merriam-Webster’s defines titration as a method or process of determining the concentration of a dissolved substance in terms of the smallest amount of reagent of known concentration required to bring about a given effect in reaction with a known volume of the test solution. In other words, it means taking small incremental doses of a substance to learn how much is the least amount needed to meet your need.

How Can Titration Help Me?

As I mentioned above, titration is incrementally increasing your dose over time to see where you feel the most benefit. It’s helpful because once you find that sweet spot you know you’re not wasting your money by taking too much or too little. How much you ultimately need depends on your age, weight, the severity of your issue and body’s absorption rate, which varies for everyone.

There are no agreed upon scientific guidelines to date, but scientists are getting more knowledgeable with every study. Most experts agree that an excellent place to begin is with 15 – 25 mg. twice a day, but the time variable and amount to increase is different with every website. We recommend going slowly, increasing by 5 – 10 mg. every 5 – 7 days. How many drops that translates to is based on the strength of oil.

Keep a Journal

Tracking your experience in a journal helps give insight as you move on. Keep track of how much you’re taking and how you feel afterward. You can check-in with yourself at hour intervals or whatever works for you.

Dosing By Ingestion Method

So far we’ve discussed dosing for tinctures, and the charts are below. There are several other ways to take in CBD. The one that works best for you may differ depending on your circumstances. Tinctures can be taken sublingually, added to food and drinks and rubbed directly on your skin, concentrates and vape oil are either used with a pin or smoked through a vape pen, edibles eaten and topicals applied directly to the sore spot.

CBD For Pain and Anxiety

The most common reason people look to CBD is for relief from anxiety or pain. Some ingestion methods work faster than others, and we’ll address that, too.

Below are dosing charts based on available ways of consumption. These guidelines are a good place to begin. The doses we recommend are on the conservative side, experiment as you will. If you have questions, please call our knowledgeable customer service department.

Testimonial

As a person who’s never responded well to prescription pills to treat and cope with my PTSD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, CBD gives me quality of life! CBD doesn’t leave me foggy and confused, sweating, nauseous and/or vomiting, and shaking, unlike most pharmaceutical drugs. Not to mention the dangerous suicidal thoughts I experienced from prescription pills! CBD gives me relief that is unmeasurable to what pills could have ever done for me. I experience fast relief with CBD; so fast, that I’m immediately able to get on with my day happy as can be, I don’t have time to wait weeks for my body to adjust to something it is clearly rejecting, e.g., vomiting, shaking. Quite frankly, it logically doesn’t make sense to me. CBD has never made me want to kill myself. CBD will always be my favored safe and natural alternative to prescription drugs! @meeseeks95

Dosage for Anxiety

When you suffer from anxiety you know it can sneak up on you. A squirt of tincture under your tongue starts working in as little 20 – 30 minutes to relieve that feeling. If you have anxiety on a regular basis, you may want to supplement with CBD daily. Using titration as mentioned above and the chart below, start at the lowest amount, add .05 – 5 mg every fourth day and stop increasing when you feel more in balance.

There is nothing sweeter than relief from pain, chronic or acute. Taking CBD tincture under your tongue and holding it there for 60 seconds sends the molecule directly into your bloodstream. With the correct dose, you’ll feel relief within 45 minutes to an hour, maybe sooner.

If you have pain on a regular basis, you may want to supplement with CBD daily. Using titration as mentioned above and the chart below, start at the lowest amount, add .05 – 5 mg every fourth day and stop increasing when the pain subsides. Your body will build up a tolerance over time so you may have to add more later.

Vape Oil

Man vaping CBD oil

Vaping is a fast way to get relief and in fact, one of the easiest. When you need a little somethin, somethin, whip out your vape pen, suck it in, and feel better in minutes. The vapor enters your bloodstream through your lungs, so the effects are immediate.

Don’t overdo it when you begin vaping. Using the charts below, work your way up to higher doses until you know how your body responds, overdoing it can cause fatigue.

Whether your vaping to relieve pain or anxiety, it’s wise to begin with no more than 10 mg. per day until your body acclimates, then titrate up from there.

Testimonial

I’ve dealt with severe anxiety from PTSD. And years ago I was on way too many pharmaceuticals, and I hated the way I felt on them. Your CBD shatter, and isolate have been the most effective product!! Plus the Vape juice! I have been able to stop taking my anti inflammatory medicine! @jacaeripriest611

Determining Dose

First look at the bottle size of your vape juice, then at the mg. of CBD. For example:

A 30 ml. Bottle of vape oil has 1000 mg. of CBD. There’s 30 1 ml. droppers per bottle equalling 33.33 mg. per dropper. Dividing from there is easy.

If you fill your tank or pen with a bit less than a ⅓ of dropper and vape that throughout the day it’s about 10 mg.

Dosage For Anxiety

One or two vapes of the pen and your anxiety melts away. You might also notice more overall focus and a feeling of well-being. These guidelines are the amount to begin with PER DAY, not per vape. Work your way up from there.

Vaping CBD is a direct hit to the bloodstream through the lungs so it’s effective faster and in lower doses than taking oil. We recommend the same amounts for pain and anxiety. It’s best to experiment for yourself to find your best dose.

CBD Concentrates Dosage For Anxiety and Pain

Concentrates are smoked so the effects are felt quickly.

Made with 99% pure CBD isolate, concentrates include shatter, wax, and dabs. These products can be used by themselves on a rig or sprinkled on your favorite tobacco or marijuana blend. 99% pure means each gram is 990 percent CBD.

How To Measure CBD Concentrates

Measuring how much CBD you’re getting in a dab isn’t as easy as other methods, but there are ways for you to approximate. If you have a 100 mg. slab you can break it up into 2, 4 or 10 equal pieces and divide according. For instance, if you want to smoke 25 mg. a day, break off a ¼ and enjoy it throughout.

We recommend breaking off a small amount and working your way up to your optimum dose.
